Gut Microbes focuses on microorganisms—including fungi, parasites, bacteria, and viruses-populating the intestine, both commensals and pathogens. Based on the current impact of the metagenome sequencing of the gut flora and the important strides being made regarding host-pathogen interactions, we believe that this new journal is both timely and important! This widely unexplored topic has implications for gastrointestinal health and disease including immunity, autoimmune disease, antimicrobials, nutrition, and obesity.
