How to Start Investing

Clinical Trials Prediction Markets

• Click the Prediction Markets tab.
• Search or Browse the prediction markets.
• Show your confidence (or lack thereof) in a drug's efficacy by purchasing contracts for its clinical trial prediction market.
• When the FDA makes their decision the clinical trial market is closed (no further contracts may be purchased).
• You may view inactive (closed) prediction markets by clicking the Archive tab.
• As clinical trials close, their market closing price (aggregate average) is determined.
• The market closing price is used to determine bonus earnings (see Earning Money), as well as, losses (see Losing Money).

Purchase Contracts

• Search or Browse active prediction markets.
• Click the link of the desired clinical trial prediction market.
• Scroll to the bottom of the listing and click the Buy Contract link.
• Please remember the Purchase Amount and Quantity should be a reflection of your confidence that the drug will be approved by the FDA.
• Enter the Amount (the price you wish to pay between $1 and $100).
• Enter the Quantity (the number of contracts you wish to purchase for that price).
• Click Save New Contract to complete the purchase.
• The money is automatically deducted from the cash available in your bank account.

Earning Money

• If a BrainTruster purchases contracts for a drug that is approved by the FDA, then they may be entitled to bonus earnings.
• As clinical trials close, their market closing price is determined.
• The market closing price will be subtracted from the BrainTruster's contract purchase price.
• If this number is positive, then the BrainTruster receives bonus earnings.
• The bonus is the difference (calculated in the first step) multiplied by the number of contracts the BrainTruster purchased.
• The total investment and bonus earnings are credited to the BrainTruster's cash available in their bank account.

Losing Money

• As clinical trials close, their market closing price is determined.
• The market closing price will be subtracted from the BrainTruster's contract purchase price.
• If this number is negative, the initial investment is lost and a penalty is assessed.
• The penalty is the product of the difference (calculated in the first step) multiplied by the number of contracts the BrainTruster purchased.
• The penalty amount is debited from the BrainTruster's available cash in their bank account.

Bank Account

• Check your investments and cash available by clicking My Account.
• The beginning balance of your account is $10,000.
• The cash available in your bank account can be used to purchase contracts.
• When your cash available is $0 you are fully invested.

Rankings & Rewards

• A BrainTruster's ranking will be based on positive earnings from investing in the prediction market.
• BrainTruster ranking is updated each time a trial closes once refunds, bonuses and penalties have been assessed.
• The Top 25 ranked BrainTrusters will be public.
• The Top 25 BrainTrusters will awarded American Airline AAdvantage® miles good for one free round-trip domestic flight.
